Introduction to the Book of Psalms

The Book of Psalms is probably the oldest collection of prayers / poems / hymns that is still in daily use in both Christianity and Judaism.  They cover a wide range of human emotions and experiences – joy, sorrow, gratitude, anger, desolation, longing, struggle, trust and hope in God…

In this course we will be studying some of the best-known psalms, how they are used in the liturgy and how we can use them for personal prayer.

  • The Lord is my Shepherd
  • Sing a new song to the Lord
  • O Lord, you search me and you know me
  • Be still and know that I am God
  • My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
  • Give thanks to the Lord for he is good.
  • Bless the Lord O my soul

This course could be short or long e.g. 4 or 6 weekly sessions, or more.
