Over three seminars we will look at the historical context of the Synoptic Gospels, showing how historical analysis helps us understand a range of New Testament texts. We will focus in particular on material that is important for Christian-Jewish relations.

Thursday 16th May 2019 : The first seminar will focus on the impact of imperial Rome, which is often an unspoken presence in New Testament texts, giving rise to Messianic hope and apocalyptic speculation.

Thursday 23rd May 2019 : The second seminar will look at Galilee, and will hopefully shed new light on well-known material.

Thursday 30th May : The third seminar will look at Judea, with a particular focus on Jerusalem and the Temple.
