Yom Ha-Shoah. “In the Presence of Burning Children”
The leading Modern Orthodox thinker Rabbi Irving Greenberg once wrote about Holocaust theology, “No statement, theological or otherwise, should be made that would not be credible in the presence of burning children.”
In our morning session we will look at some of the main Jewish theological responses to the Shoah, with Greenberg’s stricture in mind. In the afternoon we will learn about the diary of fourteen-year-old Rywka Lipszyc, one of the most remarkable documents to emerge from the Shoah, which lay undiscovered for decades and was first published only in 2015.
