This year is the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Cardinal Bea, who played a major role in the development of Catholic Biblical scholarship and was deeply involved in the creation of two of the great documents of the Second Vatican Council, Dei Verbum and Nostra Aetate.

Jonathan Gorsky suggests that the two documents are not unconnected and that both were unexpectedly radical in the context of their time.
